We worked our fannies off this weekend getting all the planters put together and the garden planted. So far we’ve got strawberries, blueberries, spaghetti squash, summer squash, zucchini, an assortment of tomatoes and cucumbers planted.

My guys worked hard on filling the planters. They were going through the gatorade with all that hard work…haha. Not captured is Ava chilling in her “relaxing chair” with Bonnie the cat listening to music.

So, I bought these two water pails for the kiddos to assist with watering the garden. It hasn’t happened yet. In fact, these have become their pet elephants that need to stop and get drinks of water quite frequently. Good to know now that if we ever adopted an elephant, the kids would at least water it. Forget about a thirsty garden though.

Things look a little bit different around here with a bunch of rain. One in particular are the dogs. Dirty. Dirty. Dirty. They receive their lovins from a distance on those days. I should have captured them after they dried off a little bit because they both looked like they ran in front of spray tanner. They have since turned back to their normal shade without a bath….something neither one of them enjoy.

It is no fun being cooped up on the rainy days, so the kiddos got to paint sun catchers on the porch while watching the rain.

For inside rainy day activities, the kiddos always like to open up their hair salon. Their favorite customer is daddy.

We finished off the rainy day with a movie. Scott captured us while watching the sad part of “Inside Out”.

This Week’s Books

“Who Wants a Hug?” was so cute and funny. It is about a bear who loves to give hugs and a skunk who doesn’t and tries everything to keep bear from giving hugs. “Duck!” was also cute. “Hide” was a great book for Ava to be able to read herself. I also thought “Bear Came Along” was also pretty cute.

And of course the favorites were “Potato Pants!” and “You Loves Ewe!”, which is a super cute book and a good lesson for learning homonyms. Ava also enjoyed “Get a Hit Mo!” probably because it reminded her of T-ball.

Gluten Free & Dairy Free Menu

  1. Basmati rice topped with cajun baked salmon and kale salad with pepperoni, peppers, mushrooms, and green onion.
  2. Garlic lime sautéed chicken, butternut squash with bacon, and broccoli.

I am a big fan of salmon and surprisingly it is also one of Shep’s favorites. Ava just thinks it’s chicken. Something else she is not a huge fan of is kale. She says it is too crunchy. It is always some silly excuse with them.

Farm & Garden

Our strawberry patch is doing much better this year. I think we were just a little too late last year. On top of that, I think I messed up with the soil. A bowl full is what we are getting daily right now. Shepard loves strawberries. He can easily eat what I pick from the garden every day. If you would like us to share some, Shep is going to be the one you have to go through. Hehe.

Some more cuties made their arrival this week! Eleven new silkie babies and six Easter egger chicks!

These are the varieties of the Easter egger chicks we received. They are just so so cute!

And our baby silkies! On the left is a blue/grey baby. On the right is a solid black baby. I showed this one to Pip and he was very intrigued.

On the left is a white silkie baby. And on the right is what they call a splash silkie. He/She has a variety of colors. I love splash silkies and that was one of my biggest reasons I wanted Pip to fertilize some eggs, but that stinker let me down this round.

All in all we are happy with the variety of babies we received! These cuties came from Cackle Hatchery in Missouri.

Fitness/Health

Another reason it is Yay for May! My resting heart rate has plummeted. I contribute that to baby chick and gardening season. It is my happy time!

On Another Note…

I thought I would share something Scott and I have tried out lately and that is the Harmony pillow by Purple. I am so not one to spend a fortune on pillows that I sleep on….pretty decorative ones yes. Now that we are getting older though it has been really difficult to get comfortable and not wake up with back and neck pain. All the money we have spent on pillows throughout the years could have easily covered the cost of the purple pillows. Now that we are in a tiny house I am through with storing all those old pillows that aren’t comfortable anymore. I love our Purple mattress and thought might as well try the pillows too. So far, I am loving it. I really like that it stays cool. You can literally feel the cold air flow through the pillow and it is fabulous.

I hope everyone has an amazing week! God Bless!
