It’s so much fun to be an Auntie to my furry niece Charli. I got to teach her to drive this past weekend. She is quite good. She keeps two front paws and a foot on the wheel at all times. She’s so precious!
The kiddos like playing tug of war with Charli. With her… they can actually win. With Bo & Ellie….not so much. Abby has no teeth, so it’s just too easy with her.
Another chicken project underway and completed! We are up to 19 Buff Orpington chickens, 6 Easter Eggers, and 13 silkies. Needless to say, we definitely wanted to expand our chicken run and add another coop for the smaller birds. Now, we have a “Henny House”, a “Fluff Butt Hut”, and a Quack Shack on the farm.
It was definitely a family project. It was nice to have the kiddos help out with this since they love their chickens.
Check out those little man muscles! He was very eager to help Daddy dig those holes.
Just a few little cutesy details left, but she’s pretty much finished!
This Week’s Books
“Bee” was a very cute book and fun because of the illustrations. Both kids loved “Kat Writes A Song”. It was the most read book this go around.
Shep really liked “Tow Truck Joe”. No surprise there! “Spend It” was also cute and gave kind of an introduction to earning and spending an allowance. That is something we are not doing just yet, but have had discussions on when to start that. Right now the kiddos help out without having to get something for it, so I would like that willingness to keep up.
Gluten Free & Dairy Free Menu
- Grilled chicken salad with arugula, riced cauliflower, green onion, and avocado.
- Grilled chicken salad with collard greens, bacon, and green onion.
There has been a new theme with food this past week…..adding more green and trying out some AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) recipes.
- Rice bowl with bison, green beans, bacon, and green onion.
- Tuna patties topped with avocado, collard greens with butternut squash, bacon, and apples.
These were my own recipes, but Scott found an AIP cookbook, so we will be giving some of those recipes a try!
Farm & Garden
Our Easter Egger chicks are quite flighty! I think the poor things get up there sometimes to get away from the pecking order from the other hens trying to establish their place. Luckily, they don’t have to deal with that anymore in their new coop.
Ava and Shep shucking their first corn, which they found fun. I thought corn was actually pretty easy to grow, so we will be sure to plant more of it next year.
The hens are big fans of the corn and the squash from the garden.
Too keep them cool, we give them frozen berries…sometimes a frozen berry salad. Yes Yes, they are spoiled girls.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week! God Bless!
