Tiny Living/ Kids / Gluten & Dairy Free Food / Farm Animals / Fitness

After enduring enough back pain from the tiny mattress that came with our tiny home, we decided to take the plunge and try out the Purple mattress. I think we both are suckers for comical marketing and the Purple marketing team does a great job with making valid points through comedy that relates to real life. We’ve had it almost a solid week now and I would say we both really like it so far. We only have 94 more days to try it out though, so we shall see if we change our mind in that time frame.

Ava is a big fan. Now, she will wake up even earlier to come jump in our bed in the mornings. She is getting more considerate though. Instead of jumping in the bed, stealing my covers and getting right in my face and loudly saying “Good morning Mommy!”, she now just slowly climbs in, steals my covers and loudly whispers “Good morning Mommy!”. That is progress in the toddler world.

This Week’s Books

It’s not Jack and the Beanstalk was a big hit with Ava. She requested it multiple times. I would definitely say it’s more of an older toddler or early elementary level book. It just seemed a little harder for a younger toddler to follow.

Pete the Cat of course is always a big hit.

The Bruce books are so adorable and so relatable. I would say they are on the top of my favorite list. “If You Plant A Seed” was definitely Shepard’s favorite this week. He really seemed to like the pictures. I believe he requested that at bed time 3-4 nights in a row and also at nap time.

Gluten Free & Dairy Free Menu

  1. Chicken bacon ranch lentil pasta, strawberries, and sweet peas.
  2. Grilled chicken with avocado ranch, basmati rice with homemade guacamole, and black beans.
  3. Spinach quesadilla with taco beef and cheese, sliced avocado, and broccoli with carrots, and peppers.

The kiddos are lovin the chicken bacon ranch pasta again, so I will be sure to share. Shepard loves loves strawberries, so I’m hoping our strawberry patch that we worked so hard this year will do its thing next year. Both kids love sweet peas, broccoli and black beans. I know… crazy right? I do have definite thoughts sometimes they are not from this world. I tried to pull another stunt this week since they didn’t go for my veggies in the quesadilla. So, this time the quesadilla itself is made of veggies (spinach). And…..score one for Mom!

  1. Grilled Pork chops, mashed sweet potatoes, and navy beans.
  2. Cilantro lime chicken, sweet potato fries, and broccoli.
  3. Peach almond milk yogurt with a KIND granola bar, and strawberries.

If you like sweet potatoes or even if you don’t, you should really try mashed sweet potatoes. They are a delicious alternative to regular mashed potatoes and are super easy. I shared this simple recipe..Instant Pot Mashed Sweet Potatoes if you wanna give it a shot. Sweet potato fries are also super delicious. Some people like a sweet dip for them, but I really like them with Habanero ranch..Mmm…

One of my go to breakfasts is almond milk yogurt. I like all the flavors except for plain. I’m just not a plain eater. I top it with a crushed up KIND granola bar and strawberries. Super easy and quick!

Farm Animals

How cute is Sammy’s little baby goat smile?! He is definitely becoming quite the charmer.

Ever since we started giving the chickens treats, they follow us around like stalkers. They just appear out of nowhere and anywhere when we are outside. We fed them from the golf cart a few times when it was raining and now they follow the golf cart like it’s an ice cream truck.

Our newest additions to the farm…baby ducklings (13 to be exact). Oh my! It just doesn’t get much cuter than baby ducklings. They are so so adorable. I was telling Scott it just melts your heart when they make eye contact with you. These little quackers absolutely love water. I think I am up to four times a day changing their water and they get super hyper when they get new fresh water to drink, splash, and what not. We are planning on making a fun little swimming pond for these cuties when they get big enough.

Workouts

I was able to squeeze in two bike rides this week and 2 weight training workouts. One of them I forgot to tell my Fitbit about, so it apparently didn’t recognize what I was doing, not that I could blame it. I’m rarely still with 2 kids and the farm animals to chase after. Lately, I’ve been trying to do workouts on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I save Wednesdays for my afternoon relief of all things Momma for a few hours.

I prefer using weights that I can control and that cooperate. Scott uses the kids for his weight training. I think he gets more resistance than he bargains for. This picture was taken this time last year when they could both fit on him at the same time. Now, they take turns and Scott has more intervals.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend! God Bless!

My verse of the day:

Hi There! We are Scott and Jamie. We’ve been married over 10 years, have 2 wonderful children (Ava & Shepard), 18 chickens, and our beloved maltipoo Abby. Thanks for reading about our journey!
